FREIBERGER, ISADORE FRED (12 Dec. 1879-27 Apr. 1969), a banker active social, educational, and civic activities, was born in New York City, to Esther and Samuel Freiberger. He moved with his family to Cleveland when he was 3. Freiberger attended CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL, then worked his way through Adelbert College, graduating in 1901. He worked as a clerk at Cleveland Trust Co. but attended BALDWIN-WALLACE COLLEGE at night, earning an LL.B. in 1904. Freiberger was promoted steadily at Cleveland Trust, eventually becoming chairman of the board in 1941. He was also a director for the FOREST CITY PUBLISHING CO., which published the PLAIN DEALER and CLEVELAND NEWS, becoming its president in 1943; and was a director of 9 other businesses. He was president of the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce in 1927 and vice-president of the GREAT LAKES EXPOSITION in 1936. During his life, he was a member of over 50 religious, civic, business, and charitable organizations; and was a trustee of MT. SINAI HOSPITAL, the Playhouse Foundation, Western Reserve University, Cleveland-Marshall Law School, and the JEWISH COMMUNITY FED. He was awarded the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce Medal for Public Service, the American Heart Assoc.'s Award of Merit for Distinguished Service (1957), an honorary doctorate of humanities from WRU (1947), and Adelbert College's Distinguished Alumnus Award (1968). He helped the university with a $20 million development program, and in 1956 the school named its new library in his honor. He married Fannie Fertel in 1903 and had 2 children, Lloyd Stanton Freiberger and Ruth Gilbert.
