CLEAVELAND HERITAGE PARKS

CLEAVELAND HERITAGE PARKS, located on the east and west banks of the Cuyahoga River near Center St., commemorate the early history of the city. Initiated by the WOMEN'S CITY CLUB, the 4-year project culminated in the opening of Heritage Park I on the east bank of the river 4 July 1976, which featured a replica of LORENZO CARTER's cabin. On the west bank of the river, Heritage Park II, with gazebo and boardwalks, opened in June 1981. Cleveland's Parks Dept. administers and maintains the 2 parks, and the River's Bend Park Corp., founded in 1981, organized activities and information to promote them.
